The Brains, Emotions, and Adolescent Relationships (BEAR) Lab conducts research focused on understanding adolescents’ emotions, relationships, and mental health. We offer opportunities for adolescents, their caregivers, teachers, and young adults to take part in research activities, either online or in person. To participate, scroll down to see which studies we are actively recruiting for!

Teens' Emotions & Daily Digital Interactions

(TEDDI) Study

​

Age(s): For 11- to 17 year olds

​

What happens? The goal of this study is to learn more about how teens' day-to-day social experiences, both online and offline, connect to their emotions and mental health. The study starts with a visit, either in person or over Zoom, where teens complete a brief interview and questionnaire, followed by short smartphone surveys over about two weeks.

Participants can receive up to $135 for taking part.

Mobile Sensing Study (MSS).

​

Age(s): For 14- to 19 year olds

​

What happens? The goal of this study is to learn from Black and Latine youth, caregivers, school staff, and providers about what kinds of support and resources are most needed for youth experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Participation may involve a one-hour interview and/or joining a Youth Advisory Board, where youth help shape future research and solutions. Participants can receive up to $270 for taking part.
